「刀姿 sword figure」
平造り庵棟、身幅太く重尋常、反り僅かふくら程良く枯れる。茎は生で鑢目は筋違い、茎尻は栗尻。
Hira-zukuri with an iori-mune (peaked back). The blade is wide with standard thickness, showing only slight curvature, and the fukura is well-shaped and slightly tightened.
The tang (nakago) is ubu (unaltered) with sujikai-yasuri (diagonal file marks), and the tang tip is in kuri-jiri (rounded chestnut) form.
「彫物 carving」
彫物は、表裏に棒樋と添樋が鎺下に掻き流しと成る。
The horimono consists of a bohi with a soe-bi on both sides of the blade, running down and terminating in a kaki-nagashi finish beneath the habaki.
「地鉄 jigane」
地鉄は、板目肌が流れ柾と成り地沸付く。
The jigane (surface steel) shows a flowing itame-hada that becomes masame-like, with ji-nie present.
「刃紋 hamon」
互の目乱れが湾れ、刃緑荒沸が付き砂流しかかる、刃中は金筋が栄んにかかり簾刃の様になり、稲妻が入る。釯子は刃紋成りに入り小丸に返る。
The hamon is a gunome-midare that undulates into notare. The habuchi is covered with coarse nie, with sunagashi running along it. Within the hamon, kinsuji are very active, forming patterns resembling sudare-ba, and inazuma (lightning-like lines) are also present.
The bōshi follows the pattern of the hamon and turns back in a ko-maru (small rounded) form.
「特徴 detailed」
正明（本名：吉田研）は1950年8月16日生まれで、岐阜県関市在住の刀匠です。銘には「濃州住正明作之」と切ることもあります。はじめ父である初代正明刀匠に学び、その後叔父である兼正刀匠に師事しました。兼正刀匠の他界後は「吉田劔 直江兼久」と改銘しました。新作名刀展でも入選など多数の受賞歴を持つ実力派の刀匠です。
本作は相州伝の平造り脇差で、刃中の働きが非常に豊かな作品です。長時間眺めていても飽きることのない、魅力的な一振りです。
Masaaki (real name: Yoshida Ken) was born on August 16, 1950, and resides in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. He sometimes signs his works “Nōshū-jū Masaaki saku kore.” He first studied under his father, the first-generation swordsmith Masaaki, and later became a disciple of his uncle, the swordsmith Kanemasa. After the passing of Kanemasa, he changed his signature to “Yoshida Ken – Naoe Kanehisa.” He is a highly skilled swordsmith who has received numerous awards and selections at the annual Shinsaku Meitō Exhibition.
This piece is a hira-zukuri wakizashi in the Sōshū tradition, with extremely rich activity within the hamon. It is a captivating blade that one can admire for a long time without ever growing tired of it.
