「刀姿 sword figure」
平造り庵棟、身幅やや太く重尋常、無反りふくら程良く枯れる。茎は生で筋違い鑢がかかり、茎尻は栗尻。
Hira-zukuri with an iori-mune (peaked back), the blade is slightly wide with standard thickness, showing no curvature (mu-zori), and the fukura of the tip is moderately shaped and somewhat subdued.
The tang (nakago) is unaltered (ubu) with sujikai (slanted) file marks, and the tang tip is finished in kuri-jiri (rounded chestnut shape).
「地鉄 jigane」
地鉄は板目肌が流れ地沸厚く付く。
The jigane (surface steel) shows flowing itame-hada (wood-grain pattern) with thick ji-nie (abundant fine crystalline particles).
「刃紋 hamon」
刃文は互の目乱れ、刃緑沸が付き砂流し栄んにかかり、刃中金筋が多く働く。帽子は乱れ込み履き掛け小丸に返る。
The hamon is gunome-midare (irregular semicircular pattern). The habuchi is covered with nie, with abundant and active sunagashi running along it, and numerous kinsuji are visible within the hamon.
The bōshi is midare-komi (irregular into the tip), showing hakikake activity, and turns back in a ko-maru (small rounded) form.
「特徴 detailed」
恒寿、本名は宮口寿夫、東京工芸大学工芸科卒、師は父の宮口一貫斎寿広。寿広刀匠は昭和八年に靖国神社内日本刀鍛錬所の主任刀匠となり、荒木貞夫陸軍大臣より刀匠銘「靖廣」を受けます。宮口家は幕末の繁寿から受け継がれた名門で、恒寿刀匠は宮口一貫斎の四代目を襲名しました。また笠間一貫斎に刀身彫刻を学びました。
本作、身幅の広い豪壮な姿に、良く詰んだ板目肌を鍛え、互の目乱れを焼いた短刀です。刀身のコンディションは良好です。
お守り短刀に最適な逸品です。
Tsunetoshi, whose real name is Miyaguchi Toshio, graduated from the Crafts Department of Tokyo College of Photography (now Tokyo Polytechnic University). His teacher was his father, Miyaguchi Ikkansai Toshihiro.
Swordsmith Toshihiro became the chief swordsmith of the Nihonto Tanrenjo (Japanese Sword Forging Institute) at Yasukuni Shrine in 1933 (Showa 8), and was granted the smith name “Yasuhiro” by Army Minister Araki Sadao.
The Miyaguchi family is a distinguished lineage descended from Shigehisa of the late Edo period, and Tsunetoshi succeeded as the fourth generation of Miyaguchi Ikkansai. He also studied blade engraving under Kasama Ikkansai.
This piece is a robust tantō with a wide and powerful shape, forged with a well-forged and tightly packed itame-hada, and tempered in an active gunome-midare hamon. The condition of the blade is good.
It is an excellent piece, ideal as a protective amulet tanto.
