Ōmi no Kami Tadayoshi (6th generation) was born in 1736 (Genbun 1) as the second son of the 5th generation Ōmi no Kami Tadayoshi. He succeeded as the 6th generation after the early death of his elder brother, Hikojuurou. His common name was Shinzaemon, and he initially signed his works as Tadayoshi (忠廣). After his father’s death, he inherited the name Tadayoshi (忠吉).
He was granted the title Ōmi no Kami on June 24, 1790 (Kansei 2) at the age of 55. He lived a long life, passing away in 1813 (Bunka 10) at the age of 80, just like his father and grandfather.
This wakizashi was made with a relatively long blade, featuring a wide mihaba (blade width) at both the base and tip, with an extended kissaki (tip), an appropriate amount of curvature (sori), a thick kasane (blade thickness), a high shinogi (ridge line), and a high mune (back), giving it a sharp and powerful appearance.
The jigane (steel surface) is a tightly forged ko-itame hada, and the hamon (temper line) is a gunome in nie-deki, which is rare for Hizen swords.
Works by the 6th generation Tadayoshi bearing the title Ōmi no Kami are scarce, and those with a gunome hamon are particularly rare and valuable.
