「刀姿 sword figure」
鎬造庵棟、身幅太く重尋常、反り深く大鋒。茎は生で化粧鑢がかかり、茎尻は栗尻。
Shinogi-zukuri with an iori-mune; the mihaba is wide and the kasane is of standard thickness, with deep curvature and an ō-kissaki.
The nakago is ubu with kesho-yasurime, and the nakago-jiri is kurijiri.
「地鉄 jigane」
地鉄は、板目肌よく錬れてつみ、処々柾がかり、地沸細かにつき地景が良く働く。
The jigane shows well-forged and tightly packed itame-hada, with masame tendencies in places; fine ji-nie appears throughout, and chikei is actively visible.
「刃紋 hamon」
刃紋は、のたれ調に互の目・小互の目・丁子風の刃など交じり、足入り、沸よくつき、砂流しかかり、銀筋が流れる。刃中は葉入り、金筋が働る。釯子は乱れ込み小丸に返る。
The hamon is a notare-based pattern mixed with gunome, ko-gunome, and chōji-style elements, with ashi entering the pattern. Nie is well formed, with sunagashi appearing and gin-suji flowing. Within the ha, yō and kinsuji are active. The bōshi is midare-komi and turns back in a small maru.
「特徴 detailed」
伊豆國貞義、本名は榎本栄一郎、銘は竜義とも切る、昭和26年生まれ、榎本貞人刀匠は弟、静岡県三島市住。 月山貞勝の高弟の一人である父、榎本湧水子貞吉氏に鍛刀の技を学ぶ。湧水子貞吉氏は当代きっての相州伝の名人といわれ、月山門下ということもありその地鉄は強いものとなり、相州上工をねらった沸づき刃中よく働いたものとなる。貞義刀匠の鍛えも一見すると小板目がつんではいるものの、仔細に観察するとよく錬れた強い鍛えであることに気づかされる。また、湧水子貞吉氏は刃味が優れていることで知られているが、貞義刀匠の製作した刀剣もよく切れるという。新作刀展では優秀賞初め、奨励賞、努力賞とあまたの賞を受賞している名工ですが、残念ながら令和元年にご逝去されました。
本作は、貞義刀匠の若い頃の作品です、刀身が長くバランスが良く、凄く覇気が有る若いエネルギーが満ちた刀です。
Izu no Kuni Sadayoshi, whose real name was Enomoto Eiichirō, also signed his works as Ryūgi. He was born in 1951 (Shōwa 26). His younger brother was the swordsmith Enomoto Sadato, and he resided in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
He learned the art of sword forging from his father, Enomoto Yūsui-shi Sadayoshi, one of the leading disciples of Gassan Sadakatsu. Yūsui-shi Sadayoshi was regarded as one of the foremost masters of the Sōshū tradition of his time, and, being a member of the Gassan school, his jigane was powerful, with hamon rich in nie and vigorous activity in the ha, aiming at the highest level of Sōshū workmanship.
At first glance, the forging of Sadayoshi appears to show tightly packed ko-itame, but closer observation reveals a well-forged and robust structure. Yūsui-shi Sadayoshi was also known for the excellent cutting ability of his blades, and swords made by Sadayoshi are likewise reputed to cut extremely well.
At the New Sword Exhibition, he received numerous awards, including the Excellent Award, the Encouragement Award, and the Effort Award. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2019 (Reiwa 1).
This piece is an early work by the swordsmith Sadayoshi.
The blade is long and well balanced, and it is a sword filled with vigorous spirit and youthful energy.

We can make an inexpensive koshirae using modern fittings and a ready-made saya.
