Chikushu-ju Muneshige, whose real name is Koshiro Shigeaki, was born in 1932 (Showa 7). He trained under So-Masamitsu, who was the father of swordsmith So-Tsutomu. Muneshige and So-Tsutomu were fellow disciples.
This remarkable sword features a well-forged itame hada (wood grain pattern) with thick ji-nie (crystalline structures) and an active chu-suguha (medium straight temper line), showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
The carvings on the blade (horimono) were done by the renowned Osaka engraving master Iwasaki Jinza. On the omote (front side), there is a depiction of Fudo Myo-o seated on a dragon, and on the ura (reverse side), there is a carving of a suken (straight sword) along with the Sanskrit character for Fudo Myo-o. These exquisite carvings make this blade truly exceptional.
Moreover, this piece was awarded a prize for its horimono at the 1991 (Heisei 3) New Sword Exhibition. The combination of the dragon and Fudo Myo-o in blade carvings is extremely rare, making this sword extraordinarily valuable.
By the way, carving a dragon with Fudo Myo-o today would cost no less than 1 million yen.
「拵 Koshirae」

The shirasaya (plain wooden scabbard) is a high-grade piece with a torafu (tiger-stripe) pattern.
