「刀姿 sword figure」
鎬造り庵棟、身幅やや細く重薄く、鳥居反り小鋒。茎は生で筋違い鑢がかかる、茎尻は栗尻。
「彫物 carving」
彫物は両チリの棒樋が鎺下に掻き流しとなる。
「地鉄 jigane」
地鉄は板目肌に小板目が交り、棒映りが立つ。
「刃紋 hamon」
刃紋は小沸出来の中直刃、刃縁砂流しかかり、刃中は金筋が働く。釯子は直ぐに入り小丸に返る。
「特徴 detailed」
備州長船宗光は、室町時代中期に活躍した備前長船派の著名な刀工です。備前長船派には、勝光・忠光・宗光・則光・法光などの名工が存在し、それぞれ同銘が数代にわたって受け継がれています。本刀は室町時代後期の宗光による作で、年代はおそらく永禄〜天正頃と考えられます。
本作は研ぎ上がったばかりですが、刀身には錆が朽ち込んだ箇所が複数見られます。研師の話によれば、錆が非常に激しく、完全には取り切れなかったとのことです。ただし、地刃の本来の出来は良く、その点からも錆の朽ち込みが惜しまれます。刀身は73cmと長寸ながら重量は軽く、バランスにも優れ、樋が彫られています。拵は江戸時代の金具を用いて近年作られたもので、コンディションは良好です。

Bishu Osafune Munemitsu was a well-known swordsmith of the Bizen Osafune school active in the mid-Muromachi period. Among the famous Osafune smiths are Katsumitsu, Tadamitsu, Munemitsu, Norimitsu, and Norimitsu (Hōkō), each of whom had multiple generations working under the same name. This sword is by a later Muromachi-period Munemitsu, most likely dating from the Eiroku to Tenshō eras. This blade has just been freshly polished; however, there are several areas where corrosion has eaten into the blade. According to the polisher, the rust was severe and could not be completely removed. That said, the original quality of the ji and ha is good, which makes the loss from the corrosion particularly regrettable. The blade is long at 73 cm, yet light in weight and well balanced, and it features a carved bo-hi. The koshirae was recently made using Edo-period fittings and is in good condition. It can be used for Iaido immediately after purchase.

柄(tsuka) ：柄巻は正絹黒の諸捻り巻き。
鞘(saya) ：乾漆黒石目。
